FCCN, FCT digital services

FCCN is the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) digital services unit, which aims to contribute to the development of Science, Technology and Knowledge in Portugal.

We provide high-speed internet connectivity and IT services for the Portuguese higher education and research system. 

More than six hundred thousand students, researchers and staff can count on our national education network every day. 

As a technology partner for these communities, at FCCN we provide more than 20 shared digital services that aim to support the development of Education, Science, and Technology in Portugal, contributing to the excellence of national teaching and research.

University of Coimbra

Founded in 1290, the University of Coimbra (UC) was the first university in Portugal and is one of the oldest in the world.  

The UC structure includes eleven organic teaching and research units: eight Faculties (Letters, Law, Medicine, Science and Technology, Pharmacy, Economics, Psychology and Educational Sciences, Sports Sciences and Physical Education), the Institute of Interdisciplinary Research, the College of Arts and the Institute of Nuclear Sciences Applied to Health.  

A UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013, the UC is now a living element focused on building the future. 

Due to its international prestige, the recognized quality of its teaching staff, its strong commitment to research and innovation, as well as its transfer to the community, the diverse cultural and sporting initiatives it promotes, and the cosmopolitan nature of its academia, the University of Coimbra is today a promoter of change and innovation, assuming a leading position in the process of creating and disseminating knowledge.

With a mild climate, the Mondego River and its banks inviting for walks and sports, numerous green spaces, walkways and cycle paths, that allow you to discover the city on foot or by bicycle, in comfort and safety, Coimbra is the leading city in the Central Region in terms of sustainability, quality of life and well-being of its citizens.

A cosmopolitan city, it was once the capital of Portugal and has an important heritage site, having been recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The city has a strong connection to gastronomy and tourism, technology, health, education, sports, and culture, hosts a wide variety of national and international events.

It is the 8th city in the country with the highest purchasing power, as well as the 4th best place to live in and the 5th best place to do business in, according to the Bloom Consulting ranking, 2022.
